This is one of a series of samples taken through a seuence of ditch fill deposits, associated with the earliest phase of occupation of the town. This particular sample has heen analysed first because|
of the large number of fly puparia noticed by the excavators.
Seed analysis was carried out on 0.5 Kg of this deposit, fly puparia and fish scales were also identified. There were few other insect remains. Some small fragments of small mammel bone were also found, these have not been identified. The following list gives no indication of the quantities of each taxa. The letters give a broad indication of habitat each species may represent.
